Woman charged with prostituting daughter

The woman is accused of committing the offence against her 14-year-old daughter with a female karaoke operator.

Dev-Kumar-Woman-charged-with-prostituting-daughterMIRI: A 30-year-old woman who allegedly sold her teenage daughter into prostitution was charged with the offence today.

She is accused of committing the offence, involving a minor aged 14, with a 45-year-old female karaoke operator.

The women were charged before second class magistrate Keli Mareng at Lawas District Office, but no plea was taken from them.

In a statement here, Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Dev Kumar said both accused, who were represented by counsel Willie Liau, were ordered to refrain from communicating and approaching the alleged victim.

He said the court set RM8,000 as bail in two sureties on each of the accused and further ordered them to report to the Lawas CID office once a week.

The women were charged under Section 372(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and liable to whipping on conviction.
