Ex-lecturer detained for ‘humiliating’ Najib, Rosmah

Wan-Ahmad-Najmuddin_internet_600KUALA LUMPUR: A former lecturer at a private university was detained by police on suspicion of humiliating the prime minister and his wife by modifying an image on social media.

Bukit Aman CID director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 58-year-old male suspect was detained at his residence in Jalan Dang Wangi, here, at 9.45 pm yesterday.

The suspect was detained to help in investigations and the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 504 of Malaysian Penal Code deals with intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. The offence is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 deals with improper use of network facilities or network service, and such.

“I advise the public not to upload any remark or image which can bring shame to others,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the suspect was remanded three days from today until Tuesday.
