Mohd-Sani-Harul-mangsa-banjir-hulu-langatKUALA LUMPUR: A total of 66 people from 14 families in Kampung Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat, Selangor, are staying at the SK Sungai Serai relief centre following flash floods today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the floods were due to heavy rain which lasted from 8.30am until noon.

A check at the village found several victims returning home to collect essential items.

Hanidah Awang Kechik, 54, said this was the second time since last Friday that their houses had been flooded.

“I could only save some important documents. The water level went up to the waist, and the situation became chaotic when the people tried to save their belongings.”

Trader Muhammad Junaidi Abdul Aziz, 28, said the heavy rain had caused Sungai Serai to overflow. This had affected his house which was located in a low-lying area.
