Gobind: Reforming AG’s chambers first task for PH-led govt
The Pakatan Harapan’s legal bureau chief says a PH-led government will also ensure those involved in the 1MDB scandal are punished.
Speaking at the 2018 PH convention at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here today, Gobind said it was important to ensure the country had an independent and fair AG and all previous cases should be reviewed once this was in place.
“Where our AG says there is no case, we will look at those cases again.
“The whole country is discussing that particular case but in Malaysia, the AG says there is no case.
“In the United States the Department of Justice (DoJ) is initiating criminal investigations on 1MDB but here, the AG says no action is being taken as it is a case only in the US,” he said.
Gobind said should PH form the next government, the coalition would ensure that those responsible would bear the brunt of the law.
“When we find evidence, no quarter will be given for those who are found guilty and we will take action to the fullest of the law.”
He said PH should also ensure the Registrar of Societies (RoS) was reformed as well.
“Till today, the RoS has not registered Pakatan Harapan.
“Old cases are not investigated and then these old cases are politicised four years later and they tell DAP to hold its elections all over again.”
Gobind said PH might take the RoS to court if it failed to respond to the opposition pact’s application to register as a political entity.
The Puchong MP said the PH parties had made the application to RoS on July 28 and had yet to hear from the agency. They wrote again on Aug 21, asking for a meeting to discuss the application.
He added that they then sent RoS a notice on Oct 25, asking for a response to the application within 14 days of receipt of the letter.
PH had submitted its draft constitution to the RoS on July 24 and its logo on July 28.
However, RoS instructed PH to use the full name “Pakatan Harapan”, instead of just “Harapan” in its logo.
The pact, which consists of DAP, PKR, Amanah and PPBM, then amended the logo and submitted the new version to complement its earlier application.
