FMT LETTER: From Stephen Ng, via e-mail
I refer to report, ‘Nong Chik: Fracas likely sparked by outsiders’ in Malaysiakini yesterday. What nonsense is Raja Nong Chik talking about!
He is described 59-year-old Raja Ismail Raja Din from Petaling Jaya as an “outsider.”
I quote him: “When they bring in ‘imported people’, there would often be disturbances because they would be challenging one another and when that happens, even we would have trouble keeping the crowd’s ‘temperature’ under control.”
The Lembah Pantai Umno division chief said it well when he alleged that in Lembah Pantai, the Umno people do not know how to live peaceably with fellow Malaysians outside of the valley. Coming from a minister himself, this statement is uncalled for.
Besides saying that the poorly attended Umno’s 66th anniversary has to come from only Umno members from Bukit Jalil (others are “outsiders”), he is saying categorically that there are two sets of laws.
One that governs the people of Lembah Pantai and the other that governs the rest of the country. Therefore, there should not be a crossover of boundary. If a fracas takes place in Lembah Pantai, it is the “outsiders” who are to be blamed, never mind even if Raja Ismail was a victim.
Based on Raja Nong Chik’s statement, Umno is never at fault. It is everyone else, except Umno’s fault, if a fracas were to take place. Let me put this straight to Raja Nong Chik: Self-denial is the worst weapon in this political game.
This is what the people can see from the statements he has made. It shows how immature our politicians are, and how shallow their thinking is.
Watching one thuggish episode after another, as observers, people can see that it is always Umno that is unable to live peacefully with the rest of the people in the country.
As a party, it has descended to such a level since 1987 that it can no longer discern what is acceptable from what is not. When will there ever be a good leader emerging from this party?
