Malaysia’s reputation on wildlife care abysmal

June 28, 2012

FMT LETTER: From Suzanne Vigenser (Aus), via e-mail

Concerning the conditions at the Melaka Zoo rated as one of the worst in the world where orangutans are living in trapped filthy small conditions 24 hours a day to which there is no excuse in Malaysia, a wealthy country.

Malaysian wildlife ministry NRE and Perhilitan are paid to enforce the law when all they appear to be doing is turning a blind eye and looking incompetent. Melaka Zoo should be attending to the welfare of these orangutan’s immediately what are they doing?

Melaka has the A’Famosa Resort where other animals are suffering with conditions that are also appalling. People around the world are starting becoming aware of the lack of compassion and welfare Malaysia shows with their reputation on wildlife care.

Shame on Malaysia for mistreating what should be their iconic native ape.
