Singapore zoo puts Malaysia to shame

July 13, 2012

FMT LETTER: From Michael Ong, via e-mail

I have read a lot recently about the new Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 coming onto force next month. Speaking as a Malaysian fed up with seeing animals suffering in zoos, I do hope I can rely on the NRE and Perhilitan to really enforce the law.

In both my heart and my head I fear for the worst – nothing will change and we will soon discover the NRE continues to be all talk and no action.

It’s truly shocking that we in Malaysia have some 40 zoos and wildlife parks, not one of which comes within light years of the standards upheld in our neighbouring Singapore Zoo.

When it comes to zoos, Singapore puts Malaysia to shame. Why don’t the NRE send their people to Singapore Zoo to learn how to do things properly?

Living in hope more than expectation.
