Cruelty at Melaka Zoo continues

July 18, 2012

FMT LETTER: From Janette Shepherd, via e-mail

I’m writing from the United Kingdom. I’m appalled at the conditions a male orangutan continues to be kept in at Melaka Zoo.

He is showing severe symptons of stress and should not be kept in this night cage 24/7.

He should be allowed to use the outdoor enclosure which has recetly been improved somewhat with enrichment added.

The conditions should be improved for all the animals or ideally closed down, but then where would they go?

I will not visit Malaysia until conditions in Malaysian zoos have been improved. Shame on Malaysia!
