It’s neither 100 years old, nor a temple

November 15, 2013

FMT LETTER: From KWT, via e-mail

The Sri Muneswarar Kaliyaman in Jalan P Ramlee is not a Hindu Kuil nor a ‘100-year-old’ temple as claimed by N Surenderan. It was only a shrine in year 2011.

There was a canteen and food stall surrounding the shrine in 2011, the shrine only occupied a very small space.

In 2013, a new shrine was built near to the original shrine. The new shrine did not exist in 2011.

The canteen ended operations in 2012, the dining area and kitchen was converted into praying area. It is important to state that it was not a ‘100-year-old Kuil’.

While DBKL decided to implement the landscape programme in that area, it is learnt that DBKL will retain both shrines as seen in the blueprint.

DBKL only demolished the canteen and kitchen structure but not the shrines. Both shrines will be remain in DBKL’s landscape.
