Perhaps all we need is more sembahyang hajat
With all the nonsense going on in our country today, and everyone cracking their heads about how to resolve it, perhaps all we need is to perform more ‘sembahyang hajat.’
I sent both my kids to Selena Gomez’s concert on Monday.
Despite all mosques in the state being ordered to organise ‘sembahyang hajat’ (special prayers) to have the concert cancelled, it did not quite work.
As a mother, I made it a point to watch almost every Selena Gomez music video and concert recording with my children via YouTube and I know that this young lady can be quite hot. So when the PAS Youth Chief said that attending Selena’s concert would tarnish the image of Muslim youths as they would likely neglect their Islamic duties and forget their moral boundaries – I was somewhat worried.
But like many other parents who enjoy a special bond with their munchkins and a certain degree of understanding, I decided to trust my children and their judgement, and allow them to watch their favourite celebrity. However, while the mosques in Selangor prayed to have the concert cancelled, I prayed to have God look after my children while they were at the concert.
At around 11pm I fetched my kids from Stadium Malawati Shah Alam. There they were, walking confidently out from the concert looking perfectly normal – no signs of having turned wild. Instead, they hugged me and thanked me for trusting them and allowing them to have one of the ‘best-est’ memories of their lives. Alhamdulillah.
I guess prayers do work. And I deeply thank PAS and the Islamic Council for suggesting such prayers to look after the interests of our children. God bless you!
All this got me thinking – with all the nonsense going on in our country today, and everyone cracking their heads about how to solve it, perhaps all we need is to perform more ‘sembahyang hajat.’
• We need sembahyang hajat to reduce the parking fees in KL.
• We need sembahyang hajat to find out who the ‘Malaysian Official 1’ is.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop highway toll charges from increasing.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop religious bigotry in our country.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop good Malaysians from migrating.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop cable TV Astro from increasing their subscription fees.
• We need sembahyang hajat to ensure the Rohingyans have a safe homeland to return to.
• We need sembahyang hajat to unite the different races in Malaysia.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop deforestation.
• We need sembahyang hajat to reduce the haze and pollution in our air.
• We need sembahyang hajat to kick out those who are corrupt in our government.
• We need sembahyang hajat to ensure the continuity of clean water supply to everyone.
• We need sembahyang hajat to ensure our all our media are free from political influence.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop religious scholars from issuing ‘funny’ fatwas.
• We need sembahyang hajat to reduce traffic.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop terrorism in the world.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop excessive land reclamation in Penang.
• We need sembahyang hajat to strengthen our currency.
• We need sembahyang hajat to reduce the number of homeless in our country.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop censorship in our cinemas.
• We need sembahyang hajat to stop conducting sembahyang hajat for ridiculous reasons when there are so many other matters we can be sembahyang hajat-ing for.
I hope PAS, Umno, Perkasa and all of our religious councils come together and organise a series of sembahyang hajats all over the country to seek divine intervention because clearly our government is incapable of handling these issues on their own. Yes, we are seriously in need of more sembahyang hajat.

To my countrymen, please do not shy away from suggesting more reasons to perform sembahyang hajat. Insya Allah, all our prayers will be heard.
