June 24, 2012

American Ashton Eaton set a decathlon world record when he scored 9,039 points at the US Olympic athletics trials on Saturday.

The world decathlon silver medallist, who set the indoor heptathlon world record earlier this year, won seven of the 10 decathlon events at the trials, securing the world record with a strong 1,500 metres in four minutes 14.48 seconds.

Eaton had already set records for the best 100 metres and long jump legs in decathlon on Friday.
