SHAH ALAM: After witnessing its credibility nosedive following the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock, the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) has decided to install CCTVs and grills.

Its director Datuk Ja'afar Mahad said that the CCTVs will be installed to record statements of people who are called up for questioning.

He said this was in line with the use of CCTVs by the MACC throughout the country beginning this year.

"We are in the process of getting the equipment to be installed in the rooms to record statements," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

As a safety measure, Ja'afar said grills will also be fixed in the rooms.

He said the Selangor MACC has also moved its office to Wisma PKPS in Section 14 here from Plaza Masalam early this month to cater for increasing staff numbers.

Inquest underway

Last July, Selangor MACC was thrust into the limelight after Teoh was found dead following a marathon questioning session in connection with investigations into several state excos.

The authorities claimed that the 32-year-old former political aide to Selangor exco Ean Yong Hian Wah had plunged to his death from the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam, where the MACC office was located.

However, his family suspected foul play and demanded for an investigation.

Following a massive public outcry, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak ordered an inquest into his death, which is currently underway.

The case took a dramatic twist when renowned Thai forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand suggested an 80 percent possibility that Teoh was murdered. This led to the exhumation of his remains and a second post mortem.

Following Teoh's death, a Chinese daily also ran a report that his spirit was haunting Plaza Masalam, detailing accounts of how a security personel had encountered the spectre.
