KUALA LUMPUR: The water level at seven dams in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya is dwindling as they were greatly affectedby the warm weather and dry spell for the past two months.

The dams are the Sungai Selangor, Sungai Tinggi, Semenyih, Sungai Langat, Klang Gates, Tasik Subang and Sungai Batu dams, said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) in a statement yesterday.

It said Tasik Subang Dam, Klang Gates and Sungai Langat Dam were most badly affected due to low rainfall in the water catchment areas.

"According to an analysis, the water level at the three dams is expected to drop further at the end of this month," it said, adding that, however, the situation did not warrant a disruption in water supply.

Syabas said the water level at Sungai Labu, Sungai Langat and Sungai Selangor, which supplied water to the water treatment plants, had also depleted.

It said the situation was not alarming and water rationing was not needed unless the warm weather and dry spell prolonged until May, which might caused the ammonia content to escalate.

"This may force the treatment plants to cease operation as raw water could not be treated, thus causing water disruption to consumers," it added.
