KOTA KINABALU: President of SAPP Datuk Yong Teck Lee (Pic) has questioned how the Prime Minister could insist on implementing the Felda Tungku coal power plant even before the Environmental Impact Assessment was done just because Felda comes under hisministry’s oversight.
Yong in a statement today further alleged Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s premature approval amounted to an abuse of power.
"He assumes the Felda managers and settlers would not dare to object just because the land owner is a federal agency," Yong said.
"In spite of the intimidating nature of the Prime Minister’s top down pressure, Felda residents are upset and worried," he said when commenting on .Najib’s go-ahead for the the building of the coal power plant at the new site after the people of Lahat Datu and Sandakan objected to the building of the plant in either place.
Yong also queried whether the state cabinet had agreed finally to the Felda site even before the Tenanga Nasional Bhd briefing to the cabinet?"
Last Saturday, Najib coal there is a dire need of power supply in Sabah but the problem now is that people want the power plant but they just do not want it in their backyard. He said that a decision has to be made, as much time have been wasted pushing it around.
