KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat members walked out of Parliament today after being denied the opportunity to debate a motion tabled by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
The motion was to direct the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to ensure that roads leading to Parliament are unobstructed when the House is in session.
After Hishammuddin had tabled the motion, Tumpat MP Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar asked that it be open for debate, saying there was confusion with regard to the current IGP's tenure.
Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee denied the request and the motion was passed by voice vote.
Outside the hall, Pakatan MPs held a news conference to decry the Deputy Speaker's decision.
Bachok MP Nasaruddin Mat Isa said the refusal to allow the debate was proof enough that the IGP had outlived his usefulness.
Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang said it was obvious that the government wanted to avoid discussing the “IGP issue”.
