Bursa Malaysia in the red at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained in the red at mid-afternoon on persistent selling in most index-linked counters, dealers said.

At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 10.38 points weaker at 1,684.61 from Tuesday’s close of 1,694.99. It opened 11.41 points lower at 1,683.58.

On the broader market, losers trumped gainers 532 to 188, with 310 counters unchanged, 839 untraded and 21 others were suspended.

Volume stood at 1.23 billion units valued at RM835.05 million.

Of heavyweights, Maybank fell two sen to RM9.40, Tenaga eased three sen to RM13.84, Petronas Chemicals rose four sen to RM9.19 but Public Bank was flat at RM24.88.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 115.97 points to 11,641.70, the FBM 70 slipped 96.18 points to 13,509.52 and FBM Ace Index was 65.11 points weaker at 4,740.17.

The FBM Emas Index depreciated 79.49 points to 11,622.50 and the FBMT 100 Index eased 73.39 points to 11,498.59.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was down 57.65 points at 6,879.31, the Industrial Products and Services Index was 0.98 of-a-point lower at 169.41 and the Financial Services Index decreased 19.24 points to 17,426.98.
