Bursa Malaysia remains in negative territory at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained in the negative territory at mid-afternoon today due to losses in selected heavyweights, amidst sluggish regional sentiment.

At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.51 points lower at 1,649.15 from Wednesday’s close of 1,655.66, after opening 21.25 points weaker at 1,634.41.

Overall market breadth stayed unfavourable with 485 losers and 236 gainers, while 318 counters remained unchanged, 867 untraded and 44 others suspended.

Volume stood at 1.46 billion units valued at RM938.12 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and Tenaga eased six sen each to RM9.27 and RM12.78, respectively, Public Bank was unchanged at RM24.66 and Petronas Chemicals lost one sen to RM9.12.

Of actives, Sumatec and Sapura Energy were each half-a-sen lower at one sen and 29 sen, respectively, Bumi Armada was unchanged at 15 sen and VS Industry declined two sen to 69 sen.

The FBM Emas Index was 46.88 points weaker at 11,242.92, the FBMT 100 Index declined 44.10 points to 11,161.51, the FBM 70 decreased 50.29 points to 12,742.13, the FBM Emas Shariah Index lost 65.23 points to 11,094.10 and the FBM Ace Index gave up 63.40 points to 4,183.67.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index was 52.92 points lower at 17,136.29, the Plantation Index dipped 60.77 points to 6,575.88 and the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.59 of-a-point to 164.38.
