Bursa Malaysia trends lower at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia trended lower at mid-morning, pressured by selling in heavyweight stocks, led by Tenaga and IHH Healthcare.

These stocks contributed 4.447 points to the fall in the composite index

At 11.00am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 10.28 points to 1,640.46 from 1,650.74 at 5 pm on Wednesday, after opening 6.66 points lower at 1,644.08.

Market breadth was negative as losers outpaced gainers 326 to 246, with 289 counters unchanged, 1,027 untraded and 30 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 779.32 million units worth RM522.75 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank slipped four sen to RM8.96, Public Bank declined eight sen to RM23.40, Tenaga fell 28 sen to RM12.26 and Petronas Chemicals shed three sen to RM8.30, while CIMB added one sen to RM5.31.

Of the actively-traded stocks, ACE market debutant Greatech rose nine sen to 70 sen, Ekovest added 1.5 sen to 84.5 sen, Iskandar Waterfront increased 2.5 sen to 99.5 sen and Sapura Energy edged up half-a-sen to 30.5 sen, while Priceworth International eased half-a-sen to 6.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index fell 50.18 points to 11,580.73, the FBMT 100 Index decreased 53.39 points to 11,427.77 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 58.76 points to 11,786.31.

The FBM Ace fell 30.28 points to 4,418.67, but the FBM 70 gained 6.44 points to 14,410.44.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index was 50.97 points lower at 16,785.24, the Plantation Index slipped 47.62 points to 6,820.73, while the Industrial Products & Services Index edged up 0.07 of-a-point to 160.32.
