PUTRAJAYA: Abdul Yazid Kassim has been appointed the chief executive officer (CEO) of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) effective Feb 1, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today.
Yazid, formerly the project director at Malakoff Corporation Bhd and head of project management at Zelan Bhd, replaces Shahril Mokhtar, who stepped down at the end of last year after the conclusion of his contract.
Abdul Yazid, who has extensive experience in project management, contract construction and engineering, will be responsible for among others, managing and implementing the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit (MRT2) project within the stipulated time frame and cost.
“I am confident his appointment as the new CEO will enhance the performance and efficiency of MRT Corp,” said Lim.
He said Yazid also had vast experience in the field of project management as well as construction and engineering contracts after spending 10 years overseas as construction chief at Qatar Petroleum.
Yazid received a bachelor’s degree in construction management from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, United Kingdom, and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
