KUALA LUMPUR: Two car manufacturers have been shortlisted for the third national car project, according to Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof.
However, he said several aspects were still being studied before a final decision is made.
“We are at the end stage of discussions. We cannot reveal more details as yet,” he told a press conference after attending a function at the Bank Rakyat twin towers here today.
He was only willing to hint that the “Look East Policy” featured in the selection of the companies.
The third national car project was mooted by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The “Look East Policy” was also Mahathir’s brainchild when he was prime minister the first time and now he has revived it.
Based on the hint, it is likely that a Japanese car manufacturer will spearhead the third national car project.
The first is the Proton stable and the second the Perodua makes.
