Celebrate Christmas with creative cakes from Elevete Patisserie
Founded by Edwin Chan, this online artisan cakeshop offers a variety of treats that can be delivered to your doorstep within hours after placing your order.
PETALING JAYA: It’s that time of the year again, with Christmas cheer and seasonal joy permeating the air.
The Covid-19 pandemic is no doubt going to make this Christmas a radically different one, but Malaysians are not letting the holiday season go uncelebrated. Families are still planning to have their annual Christmas feasts, even if things have to be downscaled for safety reasons.
But, no matter the occasion, there’s always room on the banquet table for cake.
And this Christmas, one enterprising baker from Petaling Jaya has a rather ambitious promise: that customers can expect to receive their celebratory cakes within four hours upon ordering from his bakery.
While it may seem a little far-fetched, actions speak louder than words and Elevete Patisserie does hold up its reputation as an upcoming artisan cake shop in the Klang Valley.
Founded by Edwin Chan in 2014, Elevete Patisserie is an online bakery that offers customers a large variety of pastries, ranging from simple macaroons to elegant cakes.
This year, Chan is hoping to make Malaysian Christmas feasts better with his exquisite seasonal offerings.
Once such offering is the all-classic Christmas Log Cake, a beautifully crafted masterpiece that’s certainly as good to eat as it is to look at.
Within this handsome culinary product is a Salted Caramel Chocolate cake, covered with a thick layer of rich chocolate cream frosting.
If you are looking to impress your friends and family with a tasty treat at the table, then the Christmas Stacked Brownies with Fruits is up for the job.
This tower of sinfully delicious brownies is most certainly a show-stopper and jaw-dropper, especially since they are adorned with adorable Christmas decorations.
Also deserving a moment in the spotlight is Santa’s Little Hats, comprising 16 bite-sized pieces of Tokeru Cheese Cake topped with strawberries and cream.
If you are not in the mood for big slices of cake, this set of pastry treats is just the thing for small parties. Plus, they’re ready for consumption as soon as you receive them.
There are many more treats that Elevete Patisserie has to offer, but what’s better is that they can be expected to arrive on the same day. As long as the customer is within the Klang Valley, they can expect Elevete’s deliveryman to be knocking on their door within the next few hours.
Speaking to FMT, Chan, 30, explained that even before he studied culinary arts in college, he had already expressed an interest in the kitchen.
Perhaps this was due to his family’s involvement in the food and beverage industry, but he asserted that he has a life-long affair with food.
He noted that after working a short while in a fine dining restaurant, he felt there was a gap in the local dessert scene which seemingly lacked creativity.
Starting off his business as a home-based operation, the menu consisted of macaroons before he decided to slowly expand his menu.
Though Chan is particularly fond of creating cakes with chocolate caramel, he has also started baking products with pandan gula melaka.
This proved to be something of an issue when the Movement Control Order was implemented, leaving him without a supplier of pandan leaves. But with orders for pandan cakes still coming in, he had no choice but to ask for pandan leaves from friends and neighbours!
Despite the fact that he is the owner of his own business, it is not an easy life for him as he starts baking as early as 6am sometimes.
The support of his family, especially his wife, is of particular importance to him, even though he admitted with a laugh that she can be his fiercest critic.
However, he still strives to do his best, as his work still brings him much joy and satisfaction.
“You see happiness in every customer when they eat your cake. That’s the sort of satisfaction you can never replace because you are a part of someone’s celebrations. That’s what keeps me going,” said Chan.
When asked what makes a good cake, Chan revealed that it all depends on the texture and flavour.
“It’s supposed to be like a melody,” he said, before adding that a good cake has to go beyond simply being a sponge cake slathered with cream.
