Malaysian shuttlers to feature in 3 semi-finals at Swiss Open

KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie have joined singles ace Lee Zii Jia in the semi-finals of the 2023 Swiss Open badminton championships in Basel.
Yew Sin-Ee Yii advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s doubles early this morning after beating the Indonesian pair of Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana 16-21, 21-12, 21-19.
The third seeds will meet second seeded Indians Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the last four tonight, reported Bernama.
National mixed doubles pair Soon Huat-Shevon also lived up to expectations by progressing to the semi-finals when they defeated Thai pair Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran 21-18, 21-18 in 36 minutes.
They will meet Dutch pair Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek, who beat the Malaysian mixed doubles duo of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei 21-19, 19-21, 21-19.
However, it was a different story for men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong, who had to withdraw in the second game of his quarter-final match because of injury, after losing the first game 11-21 at the hands of third seeded Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan.
