Essential running gear for beginners

Running is considered one of the most convenient and money-saving exercises. You do not necessarily have to pay for a pass to a fancy studio, expensive equipment or a personal fitness trainer.

All you need is to put on the right shoes and clothes, then head out. However, choosing the right running gear can be challenging, especially for beginners.

Here are some suggestions to help you get started.

Shoes

The first and most essential gear for a runner is a good pair of running shoes. You cannot run in your sneakers or tennis shoes, or even barefoot.

You need shoes that are specifically designed to support and cushion your feet while running, more so since there are many blood vessels on the soles of your feet that nourish you while running, jogging or even walking.

Your shoes should be chosen based on the specific shape of your feet and body type. When choosing a pair of running shoes, it is best to go to a shop selling sporting gear and try on the shoes yourself rather than purchase a pair online, no matter how tempting that may be.

The seller may ask about your medical history to find the best pair of shoes for you. You will need to test the shoes in the store itself to see if it fits perfectly. Running shoes are expensive, but are worth the money as they protect your feet and your health in the long-term.

Attire

When out running, make sure you dress in a comfortable shirt made of moisture-wicking material. This goes for your choice of shorts or tights as well.

Women in particular, must wear a good-fitting sports bra to support your breasts.

Be prepared to sweat. You will find your temperatures rise once you start running. So, keep in mind that you need clothes that can keep you cool especially on very hot days.

And because you are bound to sweat profusely as you run, bring along a bottle of water so you stay hydrated.

A watch

A watch will help you keep track of your running time. Any watch would do the trick. But if you can afford a more expensive running watch, you may try one with GPS to measure the distance of your route.

If you have a smartphone, you may use that instead. There are also many running apps you can use to track your progress and count your calories.

If you have just started running, you can use what you have currently. However, when you are more into the routine of running, consider equipping yourself with more appropriate gear that support your chosen sport.

Good running gear will significantly enhance your performance.
