Peng Heong Hakka Paikut: The best pork ribs in Klang

Klang is of course, most famous as the epicentre of bak kut teh, but hidden in this town notorious for its Ah Bengs and gangsters is a one-of-a-kind restaurant that serves very unique Pork Ribs Rice.

The restaurant is called Peng Heong Hakka Paikut (or pai kuat in Cantonese, which means pork ribs).

KY Speaks covered this place years ago, but since then, the little shack has moved into a big corner restaurant, and the menu has expanded too. It definitely warranted a rewrite.

Peng Heong Hakkai Paikut in Klang.

The restaurant is situated just off Jalan Pasar, and unlike the former location, there are ample places to park now.

Furthermore, weather is no longer a factor, the place is clean and well ventilated.

The menu is filled with the pictures and prices of every dish, and ordering is done via wireless device from the server straight to the kitchen.

If you think Klang is the backwaters of Selangor, this might change your mind.

The all important pork ribs, succulent and full of flavour.

The star here was obviously the pork ribs – succulent, sweet, and absolutely delicious.

The ribs were mostly de-boned too so there was plenty of meat on this plate of goodness. The dish can be a little rich on its own, but with rice, it was heavenly.

Chai Buih, rice with dark soya sauce, Pork Tripe Soup, Asam Fish.

Other than pork ribs, the Chai Buih is a must-order. Take it as a Chinese version of kimchi – spicy, sour and full of kick. Over here, this dish is prepared the proper way, and anyone who loves Chai Buih shouldn’t miss this one.

The Asam Fish and Pork Tripe Soup too are of pretty good quality and are a prefect complement to the pork ribs.

The drinks usually come in big bottles to be shared – the soya bean in particular is delicious.

Missing from the photos is the pork knuckles in vinegar – this shop has some of the fattest pork knuckles in arguably the most sourish vinegar “soup” – truly lip-smacking.
