Seafood Porridge in JB: A truly lip-smacking affair

Matang Seafood View is a relatively quiet looking place at six-something in the evening.

But by 7pm, expect the place to be crawling with hungry customers – always a good sign for a restaurant.

Ordering dishes for dinner is pretty simple – you can either choose one of the pre-set seafood porridge deals on offer or pick your favourite ingredients to be included in the same claypot.

Alternatively, there are quite a number of ala carte dishes to choose from if that’s your preference.

The dishes ordered for dinner that night were claypot porridge with two crabs, minced pork, fish fillet, a plate of vegetables, and two rather large oysters as starters.

The oysters turned out to be better than expected – they were huge, fresh and packed with sweetness. A couple of drops of lemon was all that was needed to bring out these flavours in full force.

As for the main dish, the crabs weren’t exactly huge, but they were rather flavourful.

The garupa fish and minced pork added a unique twist to the overall taste of the porridge and together made for a rather satisfying meal.

Dinner came to RM90.30, drinks included. Pretty decent value for what you get, and it is no wonder this place is always packed.

Definitely worth a second and third or fourth visit.
