North Borneo offers the full package of beautiful ocean and beaches, a magnificent mountain and a host of rather unique hawker dishes not easily found anywhere else.
If you have local friends to guide you in exploring these places then you are blessed.
Not to be missed is this rather busy kopitiam located in Tanjung Aru, between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the airport.
This is the famous Kedai Kopi Wah Juan that specialises in mixed pork (or pork offal) noodles.
The recommended dishes are noodles topped with both roasted and barbecued pork, a bowl of beef ball soup, a plate of noodle with pork offal, and a plate of pork offal.
While the roasted and barbecued pork was okay, the pork offal was on point, soft, flavourful, and properly braised to perfection.
In addition, the home made noodle were subtle in taste which complemented the other ingredients, and soaked up the sauce really nicely.
The beef ball soup too was good, and will keep you coming back for more. The only bump in a rather good meal was that they could do with a slightly improved chilli sauce.
