There are two types of travellers, the one who plans for everything including transportation, hotel, points of interests, which restaurants and what to dine on; and then there’s the type who likes a bit of surprise and has a sense of adventure.
It’s one of these surprise adventures that will bring you to this pork offal soup with rice place in Bangkok.
This little stall is located on Soi Sukhumvit 55, the road which you will walk on if you stay at hotel Thong Lo BTS Station (Bangkok Mass Transit System).
What will intrigue you is how busy the stall is, and that it is seemingly stuck in time wedged in between two rows of shop houses in Bangkok. If you don’t speak Thai, a bit of pointing here and there and your lunch is served.
As it turns out, they only serve one dish – pork offal soup with rice, and yes, it is delicious.
The soup comes with a good mix of coagulated blood, intestine, kidney, liver, and pork slices. The soup is quite flavourful if a little on the salty side.
There’s a generous amount of cilantro to provide a balance to the fatty bits. The chilli sauce accompanying this dish is rather spicy too, as you’d expect in Thailand.
It is a yummy dish and one of the best meals you will have in Bangkok, and probably one of the more affordable too.
