Taste the Silk Road with Le Petit Chef at Elements KL
Blending theatre and dining, Le Petit Chef offers Marco Polo’s culinary journey.
KUALA LUMPUR: It is a little strange to find a Frenchman the size of an anchovy running across your plate during dinner time.
Even stranger is how he takes you on a journey from France through the Middle East, India and the Himalayas before arriving in China.
This unusual experience is just part of the magnificent 3D show that can be found complementing an exquisite six-course meal at Elements Kuala Lumpur.
For the first time ever in Malaysia, “Le Petit Chef” entertains and feeds patrons with a variety of dishes coming from five geographical regions.
Patrons will dine in 90-minute sessions during which food will be served as an animated 3D story that will be presented with the use of projectors.
The story of Le Petit Chef begins in France as he begins to follow in the footsteps of famed traveller Marco Polo in his journey to the east.
Appropriately enough, the restaurant is decorated in the theme of the Silk Road, and throughout the session, a friendly host will guide guests as they “travel” from one country to another.
In addition to explaining the food being served, the host will also share exciting facts about each country such as toasting traditions and cutlery customs.
Le Petit Chef cooks up a storm that will tantalise your taste buds and leave you desiring more.
For starters, you will be treated to a crunchy walnut Brioche and a fresh Pacific oyster bathed in oyster cream and caviare.
Given how rich the starters are, you can immediately tell that you are indeed in a for a fun trip throughout your evening.
The next entry is a Middle Eastern theme, where you have a large variety of delights to gorge on including marinated lamb and smoked duck.
If it is your first time trying hummus, be sure to dip the accompanying pieces of pita bread into the dip and stuff some soft and salty feta cheese into the bread.
There can never be too much of feta cheese, especially for most Malaysians whose experiences with cheese are mostly limited to cheddar slices.
Moving on further west, the spices of India make their dinner debut in the form of a tangy rasam soup.
An interesting blend of East and West cuisines, the generous helping of salmon comes coated in a mixture of spicy masala and salsa.
The side of salted chilli that comes with the meal is strangely addictive, as its crunchiness goes well with the heat.
Before heading off to China, diners will cleanse their palates with a Himalayan-inspired raspberry sorbet laced with minty layers.
This dessert is excellent for Instagrammers, as it is served with dry ice that creates clouds resembling the bitter cold winds of the Himalayan mountain range.
After descending from the mountains, you can expect to feast on the delights of the Middle Kingdom.
Enjoy the tender cornfed chicken that is served alongside crunchy asparagus and dumplings with fresh prawns.
To top off your dinner, ensure you have a second stomach for dessert as there are some quintessentially French treats coming your way.
Tonka crème brulee with deliciously sweet and soft custard underneath a thin layer of sugar and a beautiful chocolate mousse is a delightful way to end your dinner.
Le Petite Chef has kids covered with a scaled down menu with the same variety of dishes that caters to young ones.
These delicious offerings are brought to you by the talented chef Steve Arrifin, who specialises in French and Japanese cuisine. He has over two decades of experience under his belt.
Speaking to FMT, Arrifin said the new Le Petit Chef menu helps to refresh his creativity.
With a team of five chefs under his purview, he uses what he has learnt throughout his career to replicate the flavours he personally enjoys and shares them with diners.
With a maximum seating capacity of 36 people per session, tickets can only be bought online and are priced at RM299.00 per head for Marco Polo’s Journey, RM499.00 for Marco Polo’s Expedition and RM999.00 for Marco Polo’s Around the World.
Le Petit Chef operates daily except on Mondays and has two sessions, one at 7.00pm and 9.00pm.
On Fridays and Saturdays, there is an additional session at 5.00pm.
