Wan Wan has the freshest fish noodles in Kota Kinabalu

Home-made noodles with chunky fish fillet.

It’s common knowledge that Kota Kinabalu, being located by the crystal clear and beautiful South China Sea, is famous for seafood.

One of the ways to enjoy this bounty from the sea is by patronising the fish noodle restaurants in the city, one of the most famous being Restoran Wan Wan.

Wan Wan is located at Bundusan, 15 minutes away from the city centre, and is coincidentally also nearby another popular seafood restaurant – Welcome Seafood.

Parking isn’t an issue in this part of town, and being only 12 minutes away from the airport, it’s not a bad idea for a pre-flight meal.

Wan Wan runs a semi self-service operation. While you do order from a server and the food is delivered to your table, you have to fetch the condiments and cutlery from the stand yourself.

This place in the city centre serves the freshest seafood.

Do chose the Jewel Garupa with extra fish skin to go with their version of dry noodles.

The fish is certainly worthy to be labelled “KK standard” as it is succulent, and super fresh tasting.

Wan Wan’s fish cuts are very thick and retain more of the fish’s own “juice”. The Kan Lou noodles are springy and are a good pairing for the seafood.

The soup here too is packed with seafood sweetness, with a minor tomato note, quite different from what Klang Valley folks are used to, but rather nice in its own way.

If you can’t live without your spicy kick, there’s a Tomyam soup base and fresh prawns, and quite a few other choices of fish and even fish paste noodles too.

If you love fish noodles and like your fish bits chunky, this is certainly a place to check out
