5 reasons why Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs are perfect for urbanites
The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs are the most versatile vehicles you can get for your ringgit.
Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs used to be lumbering behemoths that occupy more space than usual on the road and at your mall’s parking lot. Today however, these are multi-talented cars that are the motoring equivalent of a Swiss army knife.
With the likes of Peugeot’s 3008 and 5008 SUV Plus, are they the most ideal family car for the Malaysian urban dweller? Here are 5 reasons why you should have at least one SUV in your home.
1. Aces of space
The best thing about an SUV is the sheer amount of space you get in them. You can pile an ISOFIX ready child seat, a full sized pram, two travelling bags, a laptop bag, and a couple of baskets in the back of a Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus.
Because that’s what the class leading 591 litre boot space allows you to carry, once you lower the boot floor. Plus a big and low loading bay makes it easier to put your shopping bags in.
In the 5008 SUV Plus though you can get up to 2042 litres of boot space by folding down the 3rd and 2nd row of seats. That’s 100 litres more than what you can carry at the back of a popular pickup truck with a concealed cargo bed.
Yet, when you do not have to use all that space to carrying luggage, you can still seat 5 adults in the 3008 SUV Plus and seven adults in the 5008 SUV Plus comfortably.
This is usable, optimised space that’s not fixed to only one type of usage.
2. Beastly yet beautiful
Unlike its predecessors, the current SUV is quite a style statement. Today’s SUVs need to project invincibility, while still retaining a wholesome, ‘politically’ correct exterior. Take for instance the Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus.
It looks more like a concept car than a series production car. There’s the full LED headlamps, 3D “Claw Effect” rear tail lamps, and loads of stylised details all around it. It’s the same story with the 5008 SUV Plus, where it manages to retain its athletic looks despite being a 7 seater SUV.
When you step inside though, it’s something else totally. From the i-Cockpit dash design, piano key buttons, fabric trims, mood lighting and the panoramic roof, it’s an excellent place to lounge in. It’s not just a pretty place to hang out as it’s loaded with connectivity features like Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link. This stylised, unisex appeal is unmatched by regular sedans that tend to lean to one side or the other.
3. Drive of confidence
The current generation SUVs still retain its predecessors commanding view of the road ahead. The elevated ride height helps you clear over speed humps easily, even when fully loaded.
And in the case of a flash flood, you’re less likely to get stranded. Thanks to bigger wheels and heavy duty suspension, you’re able to endure rough terrain far more easily.
Which means the next time the little ones are riding along with you in their child seats, they are less likely to be jolted around by potholes and bumps.
And if you decide to drive a little closer to nature for the next family picnic, the high ground clearance and multi-terrain tyres will help you get there.
Tech like Peugeot’s Advance Grip Control System allow you to travel out of the tarmac without the need for a complex 4WD system. Something MPVs and sedans will find hard to execute.
4. Efficient packaging
Despite the size, current generation SUVs are far more efficient when compared to its predecessors. Gone are the big capacity engines, and in its place are efficient, small capacity turbocharged engines, like the ones you find in the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUV Plus.
The turbocharged, direct injected 1.6 litre engine’s put out 167 bhp and 240Nm of torque. That’s more torque than some 2.4 litre, non-turbocharged engines found in D segment sedans.
Couple that to a 6 speed automatic gearbox, and a kerb weight that’s lighter than said D segment sedans. Even the 7 seater 5008 SUV Plus comes in at only 1595kg, which is only 40kg heavier than some Japanese D segment sedans. And this is an SUV with a full sized panoramic roof.
5. Uncompromising safety
SUVs are the fastest growing car segment globally and a whole lot of safety innovations have been directed to their development. In the case of the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUV Plus cars, they have a perfect 5 star score in the stringent Euro NCAP tests. You have ISOFIX harnesses across the cars so you can house multiple child seats at one go in them.
The cars also come stocked with electronic driving aids like Lane Departure Warning and Correction, Hill Descent Control, Dynamic Stability Control, Anti-Skid Regulation and much more.
This, coupled with the larger than usual tyres, allow for a safe and secure ride even during adversities. That’s peace of mind you can’t put a price tag on.
The current generation SUVs are far more efficient in design thanks to engineering advancements in the last decade.
They are cleverly made, sport tonnes of safety, feature loads of convenience tech, yet it doesn’t penalise you for its extra space and ride height.
By design these are the most versatile vehicles you can get for your ringgit. Would you go for an SUV like the Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus or stretch for a bigger Peugeot 5008 SUV Plus?
