PETALING JAYA: To raise funds for charity, local artists Yeow Teck Chai and Oon Soon Keat will hold a joint exhibition at Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur this week.
“Art4Good: Let Our Children Dream” showcases 70 watercolour paintings by Yeow and 10 oil paintings by Oon, all of them featuring children as the main subject.
Yeow has also published a hardcover book, “Let Our Children Dream: An Artist’s Impression”, which contains more than 60 prints of his paintings.
The artists aim to channel 80% of proceeds from the sales of their artworks, as well as Yeow’s coffee-table book, to two NGOS – namely the Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped Selangor and Federal Territory (SSMH), and the Free Food Society.
SSMH provides rehabilitation facilities for B40 children and youths with mental and physical disabilities, while the Free Food Society primarily provides food aid to those in need.

This would mark the third public exhibition by 73-year-old Yeow, who channelled proceeds from his previous showings and an earlier book titled “Birds of Malaysia – An Artist’s Love” to SSMH.
The former deputy director-general of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority told FMT Lifestyle that his latest artworks were inspired by his simple childhood days of having grown up in Kuantan.
For Yeow, who took approximately two years to complete his paintings, this exhibition is extra special as his daughter, Charlotte, is the writer and editor of his new book.
She will also be organising free guided tours for children during the event.
Meanwhile, Oon – formerly from the food additives and manufacturing industry – said he was inspired by the theme of the exhibition and took about three months to complete his paintings.
The 67-year-old’s favourite artwork, “Curiosity”, is a lovely piece that depicts a child mesmerised by bubbles.

“Art4Good” will be launched by former international trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz, who has also contributed five of her own acrylic paintings.
These will be sold through a silent-auction process, with all proceeds similarly going to the two charitable organisations.
