PETALING JAYA: It’s Christmas season once again, a time for gift-giving, party planning and merry-making.
If you’re not throwing a party yourself, you’re likely being invited to one – both being perfect reasons to check out the seasonal selections at Elevete Patisserie that are not only a feast for the eyes but a balm for the belly.
Elevete Patisserie is a local artisan bakery based in Petaling Jaya that offers some of the most delicious and gorgeous-looking cakes that will be delivered right to your doorstep if you so wish.
Founded in 2014 by Edwin Chan, the bakery’s seasonal desserts this year – some old favourites and some new surprises – are nothing short of spectacular.
The Christmas Gateaux de Voyage Trio are pure delights – every single one of them.
These are French cakes historically eaten on long-distance journeys. As a result, they are designed to be portable, perfect to be stuffed into a picnic basket, or just served atop a platter.
It is available in three varieties, with the first being Grandma’s Fruit Cake with Biscoff Ganache and Apricot Glaze.
This is a modern spin on a traditional fruitcake recipe, made with orange juice-soaked fruits, walnuts and cinnamon, with a Biscoff ganache and apricot glazing.
For a fruity option, the Raspberry Kaffir Lime Pound Cake with Raspberry Jam & Lime Glaze is a strong contender. This pound cake has the strong aroma of kaffir lime, flavoured with tangy raspberry jam and homemade lime glaze and raspberry bits.
Feeling lonesome this season? You’ll have plenty of ‘dates’ with this Sticky Date Pudding with Soft Caramel and Milk Chocolate Caramel Glaze.
If you’re looking to give some cakes and pastries as gifts over Christmas, consider the Mini Gâteaux De Voyage, a set that comes with three mini loaves!
One menu item making a welcomed return is the Christmas Log Cake, with Elevete’s Signature Salted Caramel buttercream paired with couverture chocolate frosting. It is sinful to put it lightly – just the way every Christmas dessert should be.
Flashy macarons also join the feast this year with two flavours: Red Velvet and Chocolate Mint. They come in the form of an imposing Christmas Macaron Tower, or alternatively, a Macaron Wreath.
Want a cake that will draw eyes wherever you present it? The Christmas Nutella Stacked Brownies is a Yuletide attention-grabber, 36 bite-sized brownies stacked to form a 20cm tall tower.
Chef Chan also recommends the Christmas Black Forest Bites, which features the classic cake of 36 bite-sized pieces with a streusel base and layered with his family-inherited Moist Chocolate Cake.
The Christmas Black Forest Bites are part of the Christmas Celebration Set together with the Christmas Macaron Tower and the Christmas Stacked Nutella Brownies.
A smaller but equally cheery set would be the Holly Jolly Gift Set, which consists of a Christmas Log Cake and a Macaron Wreath.
For quick and easy bites, the Christmas Designer Cupcakes are perfect for the job, a box of 12 in various flavours like Pandan Gula Melaka, Salted Caramel Chocolate, Butterscotch Cookies and Lemon Poppyseed.
Speaking to FMT, Chan revealed that things have been hectic in the bakery but he is prepared to ensure every Christmas order is perfect.
“Things have certainly gotten a lot harder this year,” he said. “But at the end of the day, the joy we get is derived from seeing our customers smiling and enjoying our cakes.”
With plans for nationwide delivery and halal certification on the horizon, it looks like a busy December ahead for Chan.
