KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said the RM1.2 million donation collected by them, including from the sale of T-shirts, far exceeded the funds received for the Bersih 3.0 rally in 2012.
Maria said public support for the Bersih 4.0 rally was far more than expected with donations being three times more than that of Bersih 3.0.
“The latest figure from donations and sales of T-shirts is RM1,221,419.02. We wish to thank all those who contributed to us.
“To those who have yet to do so, keep the donations coming,” The Malaysian Insider quoted Maria as saying.
She said the funds would also be used to finance its other efforts, such as the campaign against redelineation in Sarawak.
She also denied outright the allegation by Gabungan NGO-NGO Melayu that participants would be paid RM300 each.
The NGO had lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today demanding the rally organiser reveal the source of their funds.
“We do not pay people. In fact, we are asking people to bring their own food, water, blankets and sleeping bags, said Maria.
