KUALA LUMPUR: Two Korean tourists caused a scare in Bukit Bintang today after they left their backpacks unattended while they went shopping.

Police said the two women had left the backpacks under a seat on the second floor of the Pavilion shopping centre.

Dang Wangi OCPD Zainol Samah said the management called the police after waiting half an hour for the bags to be collected.

“The management decided to call us for fear of the public’s safety,” he said, according to Star Online. “A bomb disposal unit was immediately deployed to the scene where the bags were checked and all we found were clothes.”

The women, in their 20s and 40s, returned three hours later for their bags and were taken in for questioning. “They told us that they wanted to go shopping, that was why they left the bags there.”

They were released after questioning.
