Rafizi reminds Hadi: Umno takes after its president

PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli has urged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to reconsider his friendship with Umno people because it was Umno’s president’s actions which determined if the people must endure misery under an Umno-led government.

Rafizi, a vice-president of PKR, reminded Abdul Hadi that Umno’s direction depended on its president. “If the Umno president is obsessed with power and did not have the rakyat in mind, then Umno and the government would also be of that mould,” he said in an online posting.

His remarks came in response to Abdul Hadi’s announcement that he would not attend a planned rally on March 27 to muster support against Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Razak. Hadi said he was opposed to Umno but wished to remain on good terms with Umno people.

However, Rafizi urged Hadi to reconsider and to be part of the rally.

He said he had always targeted Najib Razak and his wife, whom he accused of creating schisms in the party and causing it to be hated by the people,

Rafizi said Hadi’s absence might give the impression that he was defending Najib, especially when, Rafizi claimed, the rakyat was furious with the PM.

The March 27 rally, organised by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, will be a closed-door affair. Najib’s fiercest critic, former premier Mahathir Mohamad, has said he would attend if invited.
