PETALING JAYA: Can Khir Toyo say he didn’t know the value of the house he bought just because he was a dentist?
This was a question posed by Umno Strategic Communications Director Abdul Rahman Dahlan, commenting on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s bungalow controversy.
It was revealed in Parliament that Lim had purchased a double-storey bungalow on 10,000 sq ft of land in Jalan Pinhorn, off Green Lane, in George Town, for RM2.8 million, which BN MP Shahbudin Yahaya claimed was way below the prevailing market value.
Earlier today, DAP MP Ng Wei Aik had urged the people of Penang to stand behind their chief minister and government and not be fooled by BN’s “endless black propaganda”.
Guan Eng is not a valuer, pointed out the MP. “He would not know the land or property value before it was properly evaluated by a registered valuer.”
Rahman Dahlan who is also Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government refuted this statement, referencing former Selangor Menteri Besar Khir Toyo, whose one-year jail sentence was reaffirmed by the Federal Court in September last year for obtaining two plots of land and a bungalow in Shah Alam for RM3.5 million in 2004, from a company which had originally paid RM6.5 million for it.
“According to MP Tanjong, LGE is an accountant, not valuer. But the funny thing is CM seems to know the value of all other lands except his house!
“I want to ask MP Tanjong. Can Khir Toyo then say he didn’t know the value of the house he bought just because he was a dentist?” he said in a tweet today.
“MP Tanjong should instead reprimand LGE for his conduct unbecoming as a CM. The MP should tell CM not to take Penang people for a ride!”
