KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of attempting to murder two policemen last month.

Mohd Indra Md Zakaria, 30, and Muhammad Nasirudin Abdullah, 27, claimed trial after the charge was read to them before Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali.

They were jointly charged with attempted murder by hitting the two lance corporals, Mohammad Khairul Hizame Mohamad Rodi and Abdul Samad Abdul Kadir, with a car in Benteng Timur, Jinjang Utara, Sentul, at 12.20pm, on March 13.

The attempt left the policemen with injuries on the arms and legs.

The charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code provides for a jail sentence of up to 20 years and a fine, if convicted.

The court allowed Muhammad Nasirudin bail of RM5,000 in one surety and ordered him to report to the nearest police station twice a month.

Mohd Indra, who was unrepresented, was not allowed bail as no bailor was present in court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurakmal Farhan Aziz prosecuted, while Muhammad Nasirudin was represented by counsel Mohammad Farhan Maarof.

May 18 was set for mention.
