PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu Government’s “gift” of three islands to controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik could very well be the reason behind the revocation of state titles previously bestowed upon Menteri Besar Ahmad Rafiz Abdul Rahman.
Quoting sources, China Press reported today that it was this particular “generous” act by Ahmad Razif that could have got the palace riled up.
Ahmad Razif was very hospitable towards Zakir when the preacher from India was on tour in Malaysia recently.
The Menteri Besar also announced the state government would award three islands in Tasik Kenyir to Zakir to establish an Islamic research centre in the region.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif appeared calm when he attended the exco meeting today at Wisma Darul Aman in Kuala Terengganu about 9.25am, even smiling at media representatives present.
However, he refused to divulge any information on the ongoing crisis, clearly stating: “I do not wish to give any comments.”
The exco meeting went on as usual amidst rumours the state would see a new political figure appointed to the post of MB very soon.
The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin recently stripped Ahmad Razif of all state awarded titles.
Prime Minister Najib Razak is expected to meet the Sultan over the matter of a new MB, and two possible successors for the post that have cropped up are Telemong assemblyman Rozi Mamat and Permaisuri assemblyman Mohamad Jidin Shafee.
