KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today conveyed his condolences to the family of Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Noriah Kasnon who was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak yesterday.
“My wife and I convey our condolences to the family of Dato’ Noriah Kasnon.
“Hopefully, they will be patient in their moment of grief,” he said on his Twitter account.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong also offered his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Noriah.
“The thoughts and prayers of Gerakan members are with the families and friends of the missing individuals during this difficult time,” he said in a statement.
He also called on all Malaysians to pray for the well-being and safe return of the others on board the ill-fated helicopter.
Besides Noriah, others in the helicopter were her husband Asmuni Abdullah; Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who is also chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board; Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry secretary-general Dr Sundaran Annamalai; Noriah’s bodyguard Ahmad Sobri Harun; and Filipino pilot Rudolf Rex Ragas.
The Eurocopter AS350 helicopter was on a flight from Betong to Kuching when it went down.
Parts of the helicopter were found near Batang Lupar in Sebuyau at about 9am today. At noon, rescuers retrieved the body of Noriah from where the debris was found.
