Drag car race championship ends in tragedy

MIRI: A drag car race championship at the site of the old Miri airport yesterday afternoon ended on a tragic note when a participant was killed.

Wong Teck King, 37, who sustained head and body injuries, was sent to the Miri Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

Miri police chief ACP Junaidi Bujang said Wong was believed to have lost control of his car after the finishing line and skidded into an orchard before he was hurled out of the vehicle.

He said the weather condition was good when the crash occurred about 1.40pm.
