PETALING JAYA: Mastura Mohd Yazid has been named Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the Kuala Kangsar by-election.
The widow of the constituency’s former parliamentary representative, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad is expected to face candidates of Parti Amanah Negara and PAS when the by-election is held on June 18.
The announcement was made today in Kuala Kangsar by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to Bernama.
Mastura, 55, is a Lincoln’s Inn law graduate and practiced as a lawyer for six years.
While she does not hold an official post, many know Mastura as her husband’s devoted adviser and loyal companion in his work as Bukit Chandan state assemblyman, and later on as Kuala Kangsar MP.
The by-election was called after Mastura’s husband died in a helicopter crash in Sarawak earlier this month.
In the last general election, Wan Muhammad Khair-il garnered 14,218 votes to defeat PAS candidate Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim.
