PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional information chiefs will have a special briefing on Wednesday about the controversial private member’s bill brought to Parliament by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Umno Information Chief Annuar Musa, urging Barisan Nasional politicians to calm down, said academicians, ulama and constitutional lawyers would be invited to the briefing, to be held at BN headquarters at 11am on Wednesday.

The bill, which seeks parliamentary approval for an amendment to the Kelantan syariah courts enactment, has been described as the “hudud bill”, and has sparked protests from the DAP as well as MCA politicians.

Annuar, speaking to reporters after a Mara event here, said it was not BN’s culture to threaten to leave the coalition because of the bill.

“Whoever is in Barisan Nasional, don’t be emotional. We have to sit down and discuss and not come up with hasty statements – that’s not the BN culture,” he was quoted as saying. “Let’s discuss this issue as brothers and sisters. There have been lots of misunderstandings on this issue and we will iron this out during the meeting.”
