KUALA LUMPUR: About 500 Muslim NGOs are to go on a nationwide roadshow to explain the Private Member’s Bill related to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Ummat Secretariat Chairman Aminuddin Yahya said today they were in the process of identifying venues and the target audience before launching the roadshow.
“Immediate measures have to be taken to correct misconceptions about the Bill among the public.
“We are convinced that the Bill can curb social ills prevailing among Muslims,” he said after a peaceful gathering with several of the NGO representatives at the National Mosque here.
He also said that the NGOs intended to send a memorandum supporting the Bill to Prime Minister Najib Razak soon.
Among the NGOs with Ummat are Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), the National Silat Association of Malaysia (Pesaka) and the Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM).
PAS President and Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang tabled the Private Member’s Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on May 26.
