2 cabbies fined RM2,000 for damaging GrabCar vehicle

KUALA LUMPUR: Two taxi drivers were fined RM2,000 each, in default two months in jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for damaging a GrabCar driver’s vehicle.

Magistrate Adira Adnan sentenced Mohd Khairul Izwan Alias, 40, and Mohamad Halim Sarbi, 48, after they pleaded guilty to mischief by damaging a car belonging to N Sashi Kumar, 36.

The taxi drivers committed the offence at the North Court lobby at Mid Valley at 2am on June 28.

The media had reported that a car belonging to a GrabCar driver was badly damaged by several taxi drivers while fetching passengers at Mid Valley shopping centre.

Brickfields District Police Chief Sharul Othman Mansor said the incident occurred when the GrabCar driver picked up passengers from a taxi zone.

Deputy Public Prosecutor N Joy Jothi prosecuted, while both Mohd Khairul and Mohamad Halim were unrepresented.
