Cop breaks leg after Mat Rempit rams into him

ALOR STAR: A policeman sustained a broken leg and injuries to his face after a Mat Rempit (reckless motorcyclist) rammed into him during an anti-road bully operation in Kepala Batas early this morning.

Kota Setar Police Chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said in the 3.10am incident, the victim, Constable Muhammad Annas Ikmal Mior Arif, 21, was rammed into by the suspect who was trying to flee from being detained by policemen on duty.

“The victim is now in stable condition and being treated at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here,” Rozi said in a statement here today.

He said the police had detained the 17-year-old suspect from Felda Bukit Tangga Changlun, who also sustained injuries to his right knee and right hand.

The suspect has been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.

Meanwhile, Rozi said a total of 66 summonses involving 81 offenses were issued by the police in the six-hour operation which began at 11.30pm.

“We had also impounded 14 motorcycles from owners who did not have driving licences and valid road tax,” he said.
