KOTA BAHARU: Malaysia is currently heading towards the digitalisation of the television broadcasting system that is expected to begin in 2018.
Communication and Multimedia Ministry Secretary-General Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad said numerous discussions at the ministerial level were being held to implement digital broadcasting.
“Several discussions have been held and we cannot avoid this digitalisation process because anywhere we go in the world today, it is the (digital) world…the digital era.
“Malaysia will be left behind, if we cannot go digital, for example in 2018 as we wish. I am confident we can implement it,” she told reporters after breaking fast with orphans, tithe recipients and the state media here last night.
The government, prior to this, gave a licence to MyTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd to develop and manage infrastructure and network facilities for the ‘Dbbt receiver Consumer Label’ service to implement the shift of the national broadcasting system from analogue to digital.
The company also conducted trial broadcasting involving areas in Sabah and Sarawak.
