Woman’s leg severed in road crash


GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian woman was seriously injured and her right leg severed when she was run over by a motorcycle while she was crossing the road at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here early today.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the crash occurred at about 1.40 am while the 44-year-old woman was crossing the road to get to Jalan Gudwara.

He said the woman was hit by a Kawasaki motorcycle, which dragged her for a few metres.

“The victim was sent to Penang Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition,” he added.

Mior Faridaalatrash said police were tracing the motorcyclist, believed to be a man, and urged those with information on the incident to contact the police.
