Blogger reveals Ratu Naga receives BR1M payments

PETALING JAYA: Blogger Lim Sian See claimed on Thursday that Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, popularly known as “Ratu Naga”, receives monetary aid under the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) programme.

Lim shared a post on Facebook by user “Rosli Samat”, who uploaded a screenshot from the BR1M website revealing Syarul Ema’s payout records in 2015.

The picture was accompanied by a caption that read: “Mahathir and PakaTun don’t like BR1M. But the pro-Mahathir Ratu Naga takes BR1M?”

While Ratu Naga could not be reached for comment, she did respond to the matter on her Facebook when a user shared a screenshot of what was allegedly her BR1M payout record.

“Tu duit rakyat bukan duit bapa awak. Ada masalah?” Ratu Naga posted.

(That is the rakyat’s money, not your father’s. Is there a problem?)

BR1M is an initiative under Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration and is given to those whose household income is less than RM4,000.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had previously spoken out against the initiative, stating he did not like the idea of “feeding people with free money”.

Ratu Naga, meanwhile, was charged in February for insulting the Prime Minister on Facebook over the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

On Tuesday, she was questioned by authorities for Facebook comments she posted on Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Najib.
