BAGAN DATOH: The education ministry is to be asked to scrutinise details about a newly-proposed teachers protection act to protect educators in today’s ever-challenging world.
“I will ask the education ministry to look into the motion of the act in detail before it is brought to the Cabinet,” said deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is MP for Bagan Datoh, at the Bagan Datoh Umno’s annual assembly.
The delegates approved a motion by Zalilawati Majidah of Wanita Umno for the formulation of such a law.
She said teachers should be protected from being attacked, threatened or intimidated by students and parents while carrying out their duties.
It could also provide protection for teachers while performing official or unofficial duties in or outside the school compound.
More than 440 delegates attended the assembly, which was opened by Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.
