Anina challenges Zahid to speed up approval of new party

PETALING JAYA: The pro-tem committee of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s new party today blasted Umno and its vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for belittling the new party.

Anina Saadudin, who was expelled from Langkawi Wanita Umno, insisted that the new party was formed to focus on the bumiputera struggle, claiming that Umno has fled from its initial objectives under the leadership of its president, Najib Razak.

“Umno has been destroyed by greedy and power-hungry leaders,” Anina told FMT, adding that there were multi-racial parties, religious parties, Chinese parties, Indian parties but there was now no party for the Bumiputera communities, and accused the Umno president of having destroyed it.

“There needs to be a fresh new party to take care of the Bumiputera, Islam and the country. Don’t compare this new party with Umno,” Anina added

Zahid had said that the formation of the new party was like Mahathir “digging his own grave”.

Stung by Zahid’s criticism, Anina challenged  Zahid, who is home affairs minister, to expedite the approval of the new party if he saw no threat against Umno.

However former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan has said that the new party will “die in the middle of the road” if its leadership is similar to that of Umno’s.

“If it is just a duplicate of Umno then this party will also be destroyed. If the leaders act like Umno leaders, the party will die quick.

“The new leaders cannot be arrogant and delirious. They should learn as much as they can from Tun Mahathir as he was a brilliant leader of his time,” he told FMT.
